I have seen versions with a D, a D7 or a Dm7 in the main
riff, but I think missing the third of the chord gives the
best representation of the sound. If you find the D5 chord
tricky, a D chord would still do, and may be easier to
hammer-on to add some lift to the pattern, but still not
hitting the top string would be best if you can.
You could also try a full Dsus2 instead with a barre at the
5th fret (x57755) and hammer-on those 7th fret notes.
Same for the E5, a standard E (022100) would do, 
but, for me, is still a shade too defined. 

CAPO: 1st fret (Will then sound in the recorded key of Eb)

bottom of the page and select +1 to view in Eb.
